A 23-year-old woman was seriously hurt when a BMW she was travelling in crashed into a lamppost and flipped onto its roof.

The crash happened on the Longsight Road stretch of the A59 near Osbaldeston at around 2.50am on Wednesday and closed the road for seven hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

Emergency services found a black BMW, which had been travelling towards Preston, had hit a lamppost before overturning.

The woman, from Preston, was a passenger in the BMW.

She suffered serious injuries to her chest, face and fingers and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Preston, suffered fractured ribs.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses.

Sgt David Hurst said: “We are keen to speak to any witnesses following a collision in Osbaldeston.

“A woman has suffered several serious injuries.

“If you saw the collision or the vehicle described in the moments leading up to the collision please contact us.”
