A VERY special mums and toddlers group opened in Farnworth back in 1990.

The group - which met at the Highfield Community Centre - was specifically for mums with twins.

Organiser Julie Daley potted a need for the club when realised that there were a lot of twins in the area but very little support.

“They must have put something in the water here because there are lots of twins in the area,” she said. “Until I had my twins seven months ago I did not realise how hard it is to look after them.

“When they are younger, feeding them is a real problem and you never get any sleep because they wake each other up.”

In a short space of time, 15 women had already signed up for the sessions and she was hoping to attract would-be mums who knew they were expecting twins to come along before their children were born.

“When they first say you are expecting twins you are scared to death but there is no-one to talk to,” she said.

“Even if you look in the maternity books there is only about half a paragraph on twins.

“I was hoping that the mothers at the group can help the pregnant women and answer some of their questions.”

Once the group had established itself, Julie was hoping that the mothers could take it in turns doing the shopping and generally share the experiences of a double birth.

The group was also looking to pass on clothes and toys to new mums once their own twins had grown older.
