A CHILD has allegedly been raped in Heywood.
Police were called to reports that a young girl was raped near to Balmoral Drive in Durnhill at around 7.45pm yesterday.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in custody for questioning, police confirmed.
Forensics officers have been reported to be making investigations in a playing field in the middle of the residential area around Balmoral Drive.
In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Specialist officers are supporting the girl and her family.
“A scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing."
