ONE more patient has died at Royal Bolton Hospital after contracting coronavirus.

Figures published by NHS England yesterday afternoon showed the death of a patient on Sunday had been linked to covid-19.

The borough’s hospital has now seen 220 deaths connected to the deadly virus. Nationally, almost 40,600 people have died after contracting coronavirus.

Over 287,000 cases of covid-19 have been confirmed across the country, with 1,038 people in the borough testing positive for the virus as of 9am on Monday morning.

The news comes as Downing Street confirmed that officials were working with zoos to discuss their concerns around reopening.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “We understand the challenges faced by zoos and aquariums during these unprecedented times.

“We have provided a £14 million support fund to ensure smaller zoos are able to continue to care for their animals and are also engaging with some of the larger zoos to discuss their concerns around reopening and also the need for further funding.”

Chester Zoo has previously said that coronavirus would cause the site over £24m of debt by the end of the year.
