A VEGAN cafe owner said she has been pleased to welcome new customers during lockdown.

Hilary Martin owns Earthlings, an organic juice bar and health food cafe, specialising in healthy plant based cuisine.

Earthlings, based in Darwen Road, Bromley Cross was forced to close because of covid-19 but Hilary said the takeaway has been ‘really busy’.

“It has been great to see so many new faces visit us whilst we offer the takeaway only service. We have been really busy,” said Hilary who runs the cafe along with her husband, Les.

The business opened in 2016 and has been voted one of the top 10 best cafes in Bolton according to Tripadvisor.

Hilary said: “We are a busy cafe in general but I think our takeaway has been busy during lockdown because people have time to think about what they are actually eating."

Earthlings was the brain child of Hilary who has been a vegan for several years.

She said she opened the cafe to give vegans the opportunity to dine out in the area.

“There wasn’t much opportunity for clean eating in Bolton so I opened the cafe and people come from afar to try us out. It has been a huge success.”

Only the best quality organic, homemade ingredients are used for the dishes.

All packaging is environmentally friendly and no plastics are used for the take out service.

Hilary, added: “We use plant based milk in our hot drinks but there is an option to have dairy milk. That’s the only non-vegan offering we have here at Earthlings.

“Our produce is completely organic and where possible it is locally sourced.”

Although lockdown has forced the couple to put four of Earthling’s staff members on furlough, Hilary said she is looking forward to getting back to normality.

She said: “We are a success story but it has it has been hard. We have suffered a huge loss during this coronavirus outbreak.

“Hopefully people will return to normality with a concious effort to eat clean when we come out of this.”
