THE MP for Bolton West and Atherton has praised the economic support delivered by the Chancellor during the coronavirus outbreak.

Reflecting on new figures which reveal how residents in the Bolton West constituency have been affected, MP Chris Green said that he was pleased his constituents received support.

The MP also shared his hopes that economic recovery can begin as lockdown measures are being eased.

In the constituency a total of 12,000 workers have been furloughed through the job retention scheme.

A further 3,100 claims were made to the Self-Employment Income Support scheme.

Meanwhile, 1,975 people in Bolton West have received welfare support since March.

Mr Green said: "This is undoubtedly a challenging time for many of my constituents and local businesses, which is why I am pleased that support is being provided to those that need it.

"It is now important that, as we move through the second phase of easing the lockdown, we begin to see a return to normality in order to begin the economic recovery."
