MUCH of Oxfordshire is set to bake in highs of 30C this week, temperatures which are soaring well above parts of Spain.

While many people will be welcoming the sunnier skies, paired with the new lockdown rules announced earlier today, Oxfordshire County Council has warned sun-seekers to enjoy the weather safely.

Bosses have even made a list of seven rules to follow:

  • Keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm (this is when UV exposure is at its strongest)
  • Wear UV sunglasses, find shady spots, wear suncream with a minimum SPF of 15, wear a hat (or light scarf), wear loose cotton clothes
  • Drink lots of cool drinks but avoid caffeine, fizzy drinks or booze
  • Look after anybody who is vulnerable: elderly people, very young children, and people will serious illnesses
  • Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle – especially dogs and young children
  • Keep your bedroom and living space cool by closing the curtains and keeping the window open
  • Turn off any non-essential lights and electrical items that cause heat
