MATES RAISING CASH FOR CANCER CHARITY

TWO friends have been raising money for Bolton Hospice by running during lockdown.
Bret Parker ran a full marathon at Turton FC by running around the pitch clocking up almost 27 miles.
Bret, along with his friend, Adam Potts also completed a 40 mile run for the hospice and combined they have raised over £6,000 with funds still coming in.
Bret said: “There are so many of our key workers having to deal with unprecedented situations at the moment I just wanted to give something back.
“I chose Bolton Hospice because they took care of two very good friends of mine in their last few days, Gary and Chris.
“When times are at there lowest, these guys are there for you and know just what to do.
“They are absolutely fantastic people at the hospice - like all those in the caring profession.”
This year Bret, who works as a plasterer, had planned to take in the Barcelona Marathon and the Bolton Ironman.
He added: “The marathon was the shortest, longest event of my life.
Bret and Adam raised £2080 combined and Adam £4417 by himself.
The amount is currently at £6497.

WILL YOU BE #TANNEDFORCHARITY

TANNING fanatics can take part in a #TANNEDFOR CHARITY event to raise money for the NHS.
Rose and Caramel recently appealed for women to show off their tanning selfies.
The beauty company smashed the target of raising over £1000 for the NHS by donating £5 for every person that shared a picture of themselves.
The Bolton-based business is asking people to simply take a before and after picture and post it on your grid and your story, via Instagram.
Then you should tag @roseandcaramel, comment @roseandcaramel #tannedforcharity #roseandcaramel

PLEA FOR PRIZES AND IDEAS

A LOCAL charity has asked people to get in touch if they can donate prizes.

The team at DayTrippers in Bolotn said they have noticed a decline in support during lockdown.
DayTrippers, which is a parent and carer led registered charity that provides mutual support and companionship via days out and other activities, for families that have children with disabilities.
Carole Brennan, chairperson and trustee of the charity said: “If anyone could help with donations we would be most grateful at www.daytrippersbolton.org.uk.”

DOMESTIC ABUSE CHARITY VOLUNTEERS NOMINATED

I WANT to nominate all of the staff members and volunteers at Fortalice as charity champions.
As you reported in The Bolton News, the charity is facing tough times.
Due to the lockdown situation, the UK is seeing a dramatic rise in domestic violence cases as those at risk are trapped inside with their abusers and at the moment with the increase in calls and dealing with domestic violence incidents volunteers have to be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The volunteers always give 100% but due to staffing levels at the moment being low and even greater burden as placed upon them, but they give their all for all those who need them.
They deserve to be recognised as they always have the charity and its interests at heart.
They volunteer so that the refuge runs efficiently, and all have helped raise money to keep it going during lockdown.
Nominated by Gay Wharton.
