A DRIVER crashed a stolen car after hurtling around residential streets at up to 90mph.

Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard how other road users had to get out of the way as 20-year-old Aarron Muktarr tried to evade police.

Duncan Wilcock, prosecuting told how Muktarr, of Church Drive, Prestwich, even drove on pavements in his attempts to escape on March 2.

When he finally came to a stop, after crashing in Langley Lane, Middleton, at the end of the 10 minute chase, police found cannabis, snap bags and scales in the Seat car's passenger footwell.

Muktarr pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possessing cannabis.

Harriet Tighe, defending, told Judge Angela Nield: "He is truly embarassed and sorry for his actions.

"He accepts that in driving that way he was acting selfishly."

Judge Nield sentenced Muktarr to an intensive community order for two years, during which he must participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activities.

He was also banned from holding a driving licence for two years, after which he will have to take and extended driving test.
