SUMMER is traditionally the time of parades and carnivals but sadly, this year, it looks as though we are going to miss out on those great open air treats. So to try and make up for it, we’ve headed back into the archives and to Adlington Carnival in 1984.
More than 25,000 people enjoyed the carnival procession as 80 colourful floats weaved their way through the town.
And two of the nastiest men on TV at the time turned on the charm to wow the crowds.
Coronation Street’s Des Barnes and EastEnders’ Grant Mitchell were the special guests for the carnival and both proved a big hit, especially with the women.
Two-timing Casanova Des, played by actor Philip Middlemiss, was called into action at the Jubilee Playing Fields when he crowned Carnival Queen Tracey Hodson.
