Man arrested on suspicion of arson after flat fire at Westpoint View, Bolton

Police were called shortly after 9pm to a report of a blaze at Westpoint View on Garside Street, opposite the Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

Emergency services attended and the building was safely evacuated.

Seven fire engines and two specialist appliances were there and crews entered the building. 

Crews began battling the fire, which was mainly in a bedroom but had spread to other rooms.

There was a large amount of smoke there too.

Using jets and positive pressure ventilation fans, the flames were put out in around an hour with the fire contained in the one flat.

Neighbouring flats were checked for damage and the fire service remained at the scene until after midnight.

No-one was reported to have been hurt.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill, criminal damage and arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody.

Residents will be allowed to return to their homes this afternoon, Tuesday.
