COMPETITION was fierce back in 1980 when brewers Greenall Whitley organised a Pintathlon event for it pubs.
Heats were held on a knockout basis culminating in a grand final in Warrington.
Teams form the pubs involved took part in a series of pub games ranging from darts and dominoes to to more unusual events such as beer mat flipping.
Here Veronica Berry of the Lower Nags Head, Bolton, takes on Joseph Wilson of the Cotton Tree in the semi-final held at the Balmoral Hotel.
The Cotton Tree emerged victorious and went on to meet the Victoria at Westhoughton in the grand final.
