CORONAVIRUS has claimed the lives of 104 Bolton care home residents since the pandemic began, new figures reveal.

Meanwhile the death toll at the Royal Bolton Hospital remains unchanged for the 20th day in a row.

Data released yesterday from NHS England shows that 221 people have died with the illness at the hospital, with the last person succumbing to Covid-19 on June 10.

Deaths nationally are also continuing to fall. In English hospitals five people are recorded as dying with the virus yesterday, including one person from the North West, and nationally 28 people died over the weekend.

The figures do not include people who may have died from coronavirus in the community or care homes.

Latests statistics released today from the Office for National Statistics show that, up until June 19, 104 people died in Bolton care homes after contracting coronavirus, a further 10 people have died at home and nine hospice patients have succumbed.

Government data also reveals that, throughout the UK 311,965 people have tested positive for the illness, including 1,061 people in Bolton.

Nationally 43,575 people have died.
