A POPULAR Bolton PCSO who served the town for 12 years in his role has started his new job as a police officer.

Rob Hanley, who was last based in Tonge Moor, finished working at the Bolton North team on Friday and he began his post as a "regular" today, Monday.

His Greater Manchester Police (GMP) colleagues put on a joyous celebration for Rob in which he was handed presents and treated to a "fabulous cake".

The team he worked alongside praised his personality and commitment to helping the community before wishing him well in the next stage of his career.

On social media, the GMP Bolton North Facebook page said: "PCSO Rob Hanley from the Bolton North left our team (on Friday) to join the regulars.

"Rob starts work as a police officer after spending the last 12 years as a PCSO in Bolton, most recently in Tonge Moor.

"Rob will be very much missed, a lovely man who cared, was committed and worked hard in our communities – all attributes which he will take to his new role.

"Wishing him all the very best.

"We love a good send off, a few presents, balloons, a brew and a fabulous cake!"
