McDonald's is launching a nationwide campaign to tackle litter, after a survey revealed one in five Brits admitted to littering.

The Get in the Bin campaign will work alongside litter groups and local authorities to clamp down on the problem.

Employees at the fast food chain already collect huge amounts of discarded rubbish around their restaurants, but they are now looking to prevent the problem.

McDonald's Bolton franchisee Dave Shaw said: "It's frustrating having to pick up other people's litter as they should really take responsibility for their own rubbish and take it home.

"We're supporting this campaign so it reminds out customers to dispose of waste properly, and not leave it for someone else to pick up.

"McDonald's crew in Bolton have been holding litter events, and conducting daily litter picks.

"Last year the staff and volunteers took part in four large-scale events, including a group of volunteers who picked up litter at Weavers Court Retirement Home and St Peter’s & Paul RC Primary School.

"During the daily patrols, the crew pick all types of litter, not just McDonald’s packaging.

"Over the last few months we have seen how important collective responsibility is and we want the public to help us tackle this dreadful and growing problem.

"If lockdown has taught us anything, it is ow important our surroundings are and we want them to remain free of litter."
