WELCOME to the Pub of The Week, a chance for publicans to show off their business. If you would like to feature on this page, please email simone.okane@newsquest.co.uk.

Name of the pub: Stork Tavern.

We are a friendly and welcoming Grade II-listed, stone-built community pub in an historic part of Bolton.

It is one of the few remaining pubs on the famous old ‘Halliwell Mile’.

Address of the pub: 548, Halliwell Road.

Landlord/landlady: Graham Brooks and Janis Parker-Brooks.

How long have you been the owners? Nine years.

Bar staff and their names: Cassie and James.

Give us some history of the pub:

The pub was first registered as an ale house in 1789.

Later it was owned by Sharman’s Brewery.

I took over with my husband in 2010 but it was in such a bad state of repair, we couldn’t open until April 2011.

Since then we have built a cosy, friendly community pub.

We also hold Cask Marque status which is awarded for excellence in real ale.

Is there a beer garden? Yes, there is a large area behind the pub, which was once a bowling green, now partly used as an allotment.

We have a smoking area and are dog-friendly.

Do you have any darts/snooker/pool teams? Yes we have all of them, and we have a quiz on the first Monday of the month.

Most popular drink served is: Lager.

Features: We serve real ales and real cider.

Most memorable moment at the pub: We provide the venue for Fox Fest, a music festival and fun day which raises considerable amounts of money for charity.

Have you faced any challenges within the industry? Lots, as we were new to the industry with no experience it was all about learning on the job.

The best thing about running a pub is... The customers.

The worst thing about running a pub is... Long hours.

The perfect hangover cure is... A full English.
