Tributes have been paid to to a 'wonderful' former deputy head teacher who has died at the age of 82.

Audrey Judge served as deputy head at St George’s RC High School from 1982 until 1996, and later became the vice-chair of the school’s governors.

She also represented Walkden South as a councillor for Salford City council from 1999-2003.

Audrey, who passed away on July 6, leaves behind her husband John, her four children Andrew, Sarah, Lisa and Edward and several grandchildren.

Her son Andrew said: “She was a wonderful person, she gave us confidence and wanted us to do our best in life. She will be with me for the rest of my life.

“She really enjoyed teaching and understood children; she always gave them a step to stand on no matter what they had done, and helped build up their confidence.”

Former pupil Archana Patel-Nanavati, who attended the school from 1988 until 1993, said: “Heaven has gained an angel in the form of Mrs Judge. She was an amazing and incredible woman.

“A true visionary, courageous, encouraging, compassionate and a lady of great integrity.

“One of her greatest qualities was that she saw the best in every child and wanted everyone to reach their potential.

“Many people come into your life but a few leave a lasting impression. She inspired and shaped me into the person I am today. Mrs Judge provided a foundation upon which I could grow and fostered a sense of self belief.

“Her teachings and her legacy will continue to live through me and the many other students whose lives she touched.”

The flag at Salford Civic Centre has been flown at half mast in honour of her time as a councillor.

Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said: “Audrey gave many years of dedicated service to her community and really embodied the spirit of Salford. She was a popular teacher in Winton and Walkden and rose to become deputy head at St George’s RC High School.”

A small family funeral will be held tomorrow at St Mary’s RC Cemetery.
