OWNERS of The Real Thai Pie Company have been praised by a well-known Bolton-born chef for their ‘perfect’ East meets West recipe.

Tom Bridge, who has written over 25 books, been awarded Michelin stars and has won the highest awards his profession, acknowledged husband and wife duo, Dean and Becky Howarth for their pies.

Dean launched The Real Thai Pie company in 2012 and has won several awards, including the British Pie Awards.

He runs the company from Howarth’s Bakery in Darwen after taking over the firm from his parents Ann and Keith who ran the shop for 35 years.

Dean, who lives in Bolton with his wife and two children, said: “We have always loved to travel and met whilst travelling in 1998.

“Since then we have been regular visitors to Thailand, we love the culture and cuisine of this country.

“The Thai Pie eureka moment came after a delicious Massaman curry shared with friends. We thought this hearty Asian stew would be fabulous in a pie.”

Since that moment there has been no looking back and recently Bolton chef Tom tried the couple’s pies.

This consists of Keith Howarth’s secret pastry recipe and the home-made fillings.

In his review, Tom who is Bolton born and bred, said: “I love pies and have been involved with every well-known company throughout Europe.

“Well, Dean and Becky, I tasted your Green Thai Chicken pie and it was full of flavour and a wonderful warming kick with pastry your dad would be proud of.”

Because The Real Thai Pie Company has perfect ingredients, Dean said that the demand for them is higher than ever.

He added: “It has been a really busy time for us. We do well at the traditional bakers, Haworth’s, and we have the Thai pies that are just as popular, people are intrigued to taste them.

“A curry-based filling wrapped in a pastry that has been going for decades is the perfect combination.”
