A GRIEVING family has paid tribute to a “loving and caring” daughter as an inquest into her tragic death opens.

Evelin Chacko, who was described as having a ‘lovely smile’ and a caring nature, was found in woodland near the family’s home in Colchester Drive, Farnworth.

The 16-year-old, who was born in India in August 2003, had been living in Farnworth with her family for some time, the hearing was told.

Evelin’s mother said: “We are just so so sad and can’t believe this has happened, she had such a lovely smile.”

Another family member added: “We are all struggling to come to terms with Evelin not being with us anymore.

“She was so lovely and caring and made everyone she came across smile.

“She was so good with our little children.”

The inquest heard that Evelin had been struggling with mental health issues leading up to her death.

Police coroners officer Stephan Wilson told the inquest that on July 2 she was admitted to Royal Bolton Hospital after taking an overdose.

She was treated for this and then stayed at the hospital on a mental health placement.

However, on July 13 at 3.52pm she was pronounced dead after being found in woodland near the hospital.

Mr Wilson confirmed that a police investigation had taken place into her death but that no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement was connected to her death.

The cause of death was given as hanging.

Assistant coroner for Manchester west Catherine Cundy passed on her sincere condolences to the family.

The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing on September 8.
