Police arrested a driver in the early hours of this morning when it was found that they had been disqualified from driving for the past 16 years.

Officers spotted the Seat in Bolton and began tailing it, as it had been involved in an attempted Section 18 - shooting or attempting to shoot, or wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

At around 12.43am they followed the vehicle along Deane Road.

They managed to stop the car using specialist tactics and discovered that the driver had in fact been disqualified since 2004.

The driver was arrested for both offences.

In a statement shared on Twitter, Greater Manchester Police said: "Vehicle involved in an attempted Section 18 was sighted in Bolton by GMP Traffic and covertly followed.

"Later being successfully boxed and stopped using Tactical Pursuit and Containment tactics.

"Driver was also found to be disqualified since 2004. Arrested for both offences by the Road Policing Unit West."
