PLANS to build 12 homes in the middle of an industrial estate were slammed by Stratton councillors.

The proposal for a fenced-off circle of semi-detached housing on Crampton Road received universal criticism as parish politicians feared that the location would isolate the people living there.

Caron Greene represented developer Macniven Quays Ltd and suggested the brownfield site would be suitable but found no agreement.

Coun Tom Butcher noted a lack of a surface water management plan which would outline ways to avoid flooding, and that the area was not allocated for development in the neighbourhood plan.

Coun Tim Page argued that the properties would be too small as the designs did not meet all minimum space requirements.

He said: "It's a poor-quality development in completely the wrong area."

Coun Matthew added that lorries "thunder around there day and night", which made it a "totally inappropriate" place for housing.
