AFTER over two weeks without a coronavirus-related death reported in any of East Lancashire's hospitals, the latest figures show a further patient has died following a diagnosis of COVID-19.

The East Lancashire Hospital Trust, which has now reported a total of 204 deaths to Public Health England, recorded one new death in Tuesday's health bulletin.

The fatality was one of just one of six deaths linked to the virus reported in hospitals across the country over the latest 24-hour period.

Prior to Tuesday the last time the trust, which operates the Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General, recorded a new death was over two weeks ago on July 17.

No further deaths were reported from within any of Lancashire's other hospital trusts - nor have there been any recorded for several days.
The death toll across Lancashire now stands at 1,012 within the following hospital trusts:

  • Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 249 deaths
  • Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 239 deaths
  • University Hospitals Of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust - 169 deaths
  • Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust - 151 deaths
