A BOLTON mosque is helping a young people's homeless charity to keep its vow that those in need of a roof over their heads will never sleep on old or used beds.

Ghosia Mosque has provided more than a dozen new beds to local charity Backup North West after they were fortunately not needed as part of Bolton's covid effort.

They will now be used to provide those aged 16-25 who are or at risk of being homeless, with a good night's sleep, as Backup North West prepares to open new accommodation and expand services.

The mosque in Sunning Hill joined the local effort during the start of lockdown measures in March by effectively becoming a 'pop-up' hospital offering the space to help free up hospital beds and where doctors and healthcare professionals could support ill patients.

Fortunately, there was no need to call upon the generous offer and so Dr Dr Mohammed Jiva MBE offered the 20 single untouched beds to Backup.

The Bolton-based charity says the beds will save the it thousands of pounds.

Backup North West was established in 1992 to offer accommodation, support and education to young people aged 16-25.

The charity fundraises to help the young people in need and ensure it can fulfil the vow they will always sleep in a new bed with a new mattress

CEO of Backup, Maura Jackson said: "We gets lots of great donations at Backup but 20 new beds is a real lifeline saving us lots of money but also offering great quality furniture to young people so not only do they get a good sleep whilst living here, they also feel valued.

"We are opening two new services in the Autumn for 15 young people beds will be used there and the rest across our other services. We are always overwhelmed when the local community support us in this way. I am so very grateful to Dr Jiva and his associates. No sleeping rough at Backup; just sleeping well."
