ALL staff at Royal Bolton Hospital are now being tested for covid-19 as infection rates rise.
NHS North West confirmed that extra testing had been deployed in the borough's hospital.
The news comes after a rise in infection rates in the area – with 79 people in Bolton testing positive for covid-19 since last Friday.
A spokeswoman for NHS North West said: “In line with previous Public Health England/Chief Medical Officer advice, additional staff testing is sometimes deployed on a precautionary basis.
"As usual, staff who test positive will be given support to self-isolate in line with government rules.”
Similar measures have also been introduced for all staff at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport and Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
The move comes a week after lockdown restrictions were imposed in Greater Manchester, and parts of East Lancashire and West Yorkshire.
Under the new measures, people across these areas were banned from meeting different households in a private home or garden.
Anyone found flouting the rules could be fined £100 up to a maximum of £3,200 for repeat offences.
