STAFF at a Whitefield gym are self-isolating after one of their colleagues tested positive for coronavirus.

Total Fitness, Whitefield ­— which remains open ­— moved to reassure users that safety of members and staff was its "number one priority" with "immediate action" being taken

A new team has been drafted into run the club while its staff self-isolate and get tested for the infection.

The gym said the staff member who tested positive is currently self-isolating in line with Government guidance.

All staff members will now be tested for the infection.

The pool has been temporarily closed and other measures taken include a deep clean of the complex.

A spokesman for Total Fitness said: "A member of staff at our Whitefield club has tested positive for coronavirus.

" In accordance with government guidelines, this person is now self-isolating.

“The safety of our members and staff is our number one priority and so we have taken immediate action.

“These measures include a full, deep-clean of the entire club by our specialist contractor. In addition, all staff from the Whitefield club will self-isolate and undergo testing as a precaution.

“A reduced back up team has been brought in to operate the club. As a result of these measures, the pool and poolside facilities at the club will be closed on Sunday and Monday (9th and 10th August).

“Members will be able to use the gym floor and enjoy group classes as normal.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused, but we believe members will understand the need for swift action to ensure our club remains a safe place for everyone.”

The Bury Times understands members have been informed about the positive test and measures taken to keep staff and users safe.
