Trafford’s coronavirus cases have dropped significantly following the introduction of new Government restrictions.

According to the latest statistics, just 46 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the borough for the week ending August 6 - which is 46 less than the week ending July 30.

Eleanor Roaf, Trafford’s Director of Public Health, said: “Of course it is great news that the numbers of cases have halved. However, we still need to be vigilant.

"In the week ending July 30 Trafford had recorded one of the highest rates of increase of infection in the UK.

"The rate in the borough remains much higher than in early July with confirmed cases in every ward. Furthermore, rates across Greater Manchester have increased in some places and the risk remains very real.”

Rates among people aged over 70 in the borough remain low but we have seen increasing number of cases in people in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

Health officials are continuing to urge people to stick to the Government’s rules in order to drive down the number of coronavirus cases:

  • Do not visit someone’s home or garden unless you have formed a support bubble
  • Do not socialise with people you don’t live with at indoor venues
  • Do not meet outdoors in groups of more than six.

If you test positive, or are a contact of a confirmed case it is essential that you protect yourself and others by following the rule on self isolation.

Regular hand washing and social distancing remain the most effective ways to protect yourself.

The wearing of face coverings can offer some protection to others but people with some health conditions cannot wear a face covering so please be mindful of this when out and about.

If you need to be tested, there are permanent sites at the Airport and the Etihad Stadium.

In addition, there is a mobile testing unit at two different locations within Trafford this week: On Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 the site will be at Trafford House car park in Stretford (the car park next to the Bishop Blaze pub).

From Wednesday 12 - Friday 14 August the MTU will be back at Sale Water Park Metrolink car park.

If you have any Covid symptoms please make sure you get tested and encourage others to do the same. Booking is essential via the national booking site or by calling 119. You will not be seen if you have not booked a place.
