BLACKBURN with Darwen has once again overtaken Pendle on the coronavirus infection rate table.

The two areas are currently at the third and fourth spots on the table, which looks at the covid-19 infection rate for the seven days up to August 11.

Blackburn with Darwen saw 132 new cases, 88.2 per 100,000 people, a slight rise from 82.2 in the week till August 4.

In Pendle, things stayed the same, with 78 new cases, a rate of 84.7.

The two East Lancashire boroughs have been high on the list of all 315 local authorities across the UK for many weeks now, but have been pushed off the top spots by outbreaks in other areas.

Northampton took the top spot after an outbreak at the Greencore sandwich factory in the town.

The area saw 260 new cases this week, a rate of 115.8.

Oldham stayed high on the list, sitting in the second spot with 112.2 cases per 100,000 people – 266 confirmed cases.

Nearby Preston is eighth on the list, with an unchanged rate of 43.3, whilst Burnley and Hyndburn could be found at spots 12 and 13 respectively.
