A TOTAL of 2,167 people in Bolton have now tested positive for coronavirus, latest figures reveal.

Public Health England says that in the last seven days 54 people in Bolton have been confirmed as having the disease, including seven cases occurring in Lostock and Ladybridge and a further seven cases in the Gilnow area.

However, there are several areas of the borough, such as Westhoughton and Kearsley, where no new cases have been reported.

The infection rate for the borough as a whole stands at 753.6 cases per 100,000 of population.

Statistics show that a total of 713 people throughout the UK have been reported as being positive for the illness today.

The total number of people in the country who are confirmed as having contracted Covid-19 since the pandemic began now stands at 319,197.

As of Thursday last week 930 people were being treated in hospital for the illness, with 73 of them placed on ventilators.

NHS England figures reveal no one was reported as dying in hospital with coronavirus in hospital yesterday. At the Royal Bolton Hospital the last death occurred on August 4.
