A restaurant specialising in authentic Pakistani and Indian cuisine has opened in the town centre.

At the start of the year Tosseb Khan decided to launch his own restaurant, but once lockdown took hold he had to postpone his plans.

On Tuesday he was finally able to open the doors to Baba Jee’s on Crook Street.

The restaurant aims to bring high quality Pakistani and Indian cuisine to the town.

Mr Khan said: “This is a new adventure for me and something I have been looking forward to.

“I feel this is new to Bolton. Usually people go to Manchester, Birmingham or Bradford if they want authentic Pakistani and Indian cuisine, but now there’s a place here.

“My mother and father are from Pakistan so it’s very important for me that it is all authentic.

“We will offer people great hospitality, good service and high quality food. The atmosphere is also very important to us and we want people to enjoy their time in the restaurant.

“I’ve worked in the takeaway industry for 10 to 15 years so this is a different challenge for me.”

Baba Jee’s offers a variety of curries made with a special ghee, chef’s specials and sides, but their signature dish is a Tawa platter, which can serve two, four or six people.

Although not participating in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, they are offering 10 per cent discount for those dining in throughout August.

Mr Khan said: “At the moment we are dine in and collection only, but we are planning on organising deliveries soon.

“It’s been really hard opening at this time, but we’ve put lots of measures in place at the restaurant with social distancing everywhere and hand sanitisers. We have booths so naturally everyone is separated.

“I had decided to open up a restaurant at the start of the year, but then coronavirus hit and slowed everything down.

“We had hoped to open up in July. At the start of the year everything went down hill, but hopefully it’s uphill from here.”
