THE Government is expected to give an update today on local lockdown measures on Bolton and across Greater Manchester.

There are fears that Oldham will be made subject to stricter conditions as infection rates remain stubbornly high, the highest in the country.

Neighbouring Bury has also seen a spiked.

Last night, there was a ‘gold’ level meeting of ministers, it has been reported, on what changes to make to restrictions in which part of the North West, and that decision is expected this morning.

Bolton, and the rest of Greater Manchester, is currently subject to restrictions brought in at the end of July to prevent households from mixing indoors following a rise in cases.

Businesses are banned in the area for offering certain service or opening, after restrictions on what they could do was lifted in the rest of the country.

In the latest seven-day rolling figures, Bolton recorded 64 new cases in the seven days to August 17 – the equivalent of 22.3 per 100,000 people, down from 26.8 in the seven days to August 10.

Other areas recording notable week-on-week jumps include:

Manchester (up from 38.5 to 49.0, with 271 new cases)

Bury (up from 22.0 to 33.0, with 63 new cases)

Stoke-on-Trent (up from 15.6 to 26.1, with 67 new cases)

The list has been calculated by the PA news agency and is based on Public Health England data published on August 20 on the Government’s coronavirus online dashboard.

Here is the list in full.
