TWO more people in Bolton tested positive for coronavivrus today, taking the total number in the town known to be infected with the disease to 2,194.

The town now has a cumulative infection rate of 715.4 per 10,000 of population, with its most recent weekly infection rate standing at 21.7 per 100,000.

Government statistics reveal that, today throughout the UK, laboratories confirmed 1,033 people gave positive readings.

It brings the total number of people in the country who are known to have contracted Covid-19 to 323,313 since the pandemic began.

The total number of people to have died in the UK from the illness is now 41,405, including two deaths recorded today, one of which was at a North West hospital.

However, there have been no deaths from coronavirus at the Royal Bolton Hospital for 18 days since August 4. The death toll at the hospital remains at 230.

Throughout the country 841 people are continuing to battle the illness in hospitals, with 76 of them remaining on ventilators in order to support their breathing.
