A YOUNG Bolton actress was celebrating in 1988 after landing a part on one of Britain’s favourite TV soaps.

Julie Foy from Harwood, was set to play Gina Seddon, the younger sister of Sally Webster on Coronation Street.

Julie, 17, told the Evening News: “It is a nine episode part and I move in to live with Sally and Kevin. I’m not sure what happens after that at the moment.

“It is a good chance and I am very pleased that I got the part.

“The money will also come in handy while I am at college and all the cast have really made me welcome.”

Julie was studying acting at Salford College of Technology when she got the part and rather than just the initial nine episodes her character Gina was in the show for nine months and created quite a stir.

Initially she moved in with Sally and Kevin at number 13 Coronation Street - the Ogden’s former home to Corrie aficionados - after falling out with her dad over boyfriend Eddie.

She managed to get Eddie a job at the garage Kevin worked at but then became involved with Martin Platt leading to Eddie and Martin getting into a fight and Gina going back home.

She would return to the street later in the year when she got a job at Jim’s Cafe helping Gail with a mobile sandwich round but the workshy Gina was more interested in the boys she could meet on her round that delivering butties.

In January 1989 she left for a second time following the death of her dad and receiving money from an insurance payout.

The character of Gina returned to Coronation Street in 2017 played by actress Connie Hyde and was revealed to be Sally’s secret stalker who was suffering from a bipolar disorder.

Julie appeared on TV in series such as Press Gang, Jossy’s Giants and Casualty and also was involved in a number of stage productions.

More recently she has been a producer for film, being part of the team behind The Silent Child which won the Oscar for best live action short film in 2018 and a host of other awards on both sides of the Atlantic.
