A POPULAR social club did not open last night after someone linked to the site tested positive for coronavirus.

The Top Club, on Manchester Road West, Little Hulton, made the sudden announcement shortly after 4.30pm yesterday afternoon.

A member of the club's committee said the venue would not be opening after a case of covid-19 had been confirmed "within the club".

It has not been revealed whether the infected person was a member of staff or a customer.

At around 6.30pm, the club urged customers to get tested for the virus if they had visited the site since Sunday, August 30, and started to display symptoms.

A spokesman for The Top Club said: "If you have been in the club between Sunday August 30 and Tuesday September 1, and develop any of the symptoms associated with coronavirus, Salford Council has advised you should have a test.

"We have been advised to not identify the person.

"We will be following track and trace procedures and contacting everyone directly to notify those that have been in the club between these dates."

The main symptoms of coronavirus include a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

A continuous cough means you have been coughing for more than an hour, or had at least three coughing episodes in 24 hours. If you normally have a cough, it may be worse than usual.

Most people with coronavirus have at least one of the listed symptoms.
