FIVE more staff at a McDonald's branch in the centre of Bolton have tested positive for coronavirus.

Last week, The Bolton News confirmed that two members of staff at the China Garden branch of the popular takeaway had contracted covid-19 at the end of August.

A cleaning company was hired to perform a deep clean of the premises, with all employees, Public Health England, and Bolton Council's Environmental Health Officer made aware of the cases.

Now, five more members of staff have tested positive for the virus, although McDonald's has once again moved to reassure customers that they have been working to keep staff and customers safe.

A spokeswoman for the chain said: “In total we have had seven employees test positive for covid-19 at the China Garden restaurant.

"All these people are self-isolating and have not returned to the restaurant since it was deep cleaned by an external cleaning company.

"We continue to work closely with Public Health England and the Environmental Health Officer, following their guidance to ensure we are operating safely.”

A number of safety measures, including perspex screens, temperature checks at the start of each shift, and social distancing were introduced at branches across the country to keep people safe from covid-19.

Face coverings and regular use of hand sanitiser are encouraged.
