MORE than 500 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Bolton in the seven days to September 10, according to new data from Public Health England.

A total of 552 cases were recorded ­— the equivalent of 192.0 cases per 100,000 people, up from 126.2 per 100,000 in the previous week ­— the seven days to September 3 where 363 cases were recorded.

Bolton continues to record the highest seven-day rate in England and is subject to additional restrictions, which police and council have been enforcing over the weekend

Four other areas of England also have rates that are now higher than 100 cases per 100,000: Blackburn with Darwen, 118.2, up from 61.5; Hyndburn, 114.8, up from 43.2; Oadby and Wigston ,114.0, up from 24.6; and Preston, 102.0, up from 61.5.

The Government said that as of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 3,330 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. Overall, 368,504 cases have been confirmed.

The Government dashboard also said a further five people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday. This brings the UK total to 41,628.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 57,400 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

In total, 210 of the 315 local authority areas in England recorded an increase in the weekly rate of new Covid-19 cases in the seven days to September 10.

The rate fell in 91 areas and was unchanged in 14 areas.

New cases were recorded in all 315 local authority areas.
