A secondary school 'bubble' is self isolating after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

St James's CE High School had to close a Year 7 bubble last week, with teachers spending the weekend getting to grips with remote learning to ensure the young people did not miss out on their lessons.

Headteacher Catherine Anderson said: “We are just devastated that the Year Seven have had to self-isolate, heartbroken doesn’t even begin to describe it. The new school year had started so well.

“So on Saturday and Sunday we held a CPD — continuous professional development — session so we could put on live lessons and still follow their curriculum timetable.

“It has gone so well. It is testimony to the teachers’ dedication for coming in at the weekend and going above and beyond for the pupils. The lessons have gone really well.”

Using technology the year group group have enjoyed a PE lesson as well as geography and many other lessons.

“The participation was overwhelming, “ said Mrs Anderson, “We have invested in the infrastructure to be able to do this and it has worked wonderfully."
