LANCASHIRE and Yorkshire cricketers remembered the life of Bury businessman David Hodgkiss OBE during the Roses clash at Emirates Old Trafford last night.
Lancashire Lightning and Yorkshire Vikings took part in a minute’s applause and also wore black armbands as a mark of respect for Mr Hodgkiss, who passed away in March at the age of 71 after testing positive for Covid-19.
The successful industrialist, who was chief executive of Brandlesholme based steelmakers William Hare Group, became chairman of the cricket club in 2017.
Daniel Gidney, Lancashire Cricket chief executive, said: “We always said we would celebrate David’s life when it was appropriate, and a Roses T20 match in our first domestic game of the season at Emirates Old Trafford was a fitting stage in which to do so.
“David’s significant contributions to the Club over a 22-year period will not be forgotten.”
Mr Hodgkiss was awarded the OBE for services to manufacturing and exporting for his work with William Hare.
The steel fabricators has been a Lancashire mainstay, having been formed in Bolton in 1888 before relocating to Bury around the turn of the last century.
