Crews from Farnworth, Atherton and Hindley fire stations attended a blaze at a house in Tyldesley.

Firefighters were called to a property on Rutland Road in the Shakerley area on Monday morning after a fire spread from a garden shed to the outside of the property.

The resident was able to safely get out of the house but the blaze caused significant damage to the cladding on exterior.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire service.

Watch manager Andrew Leyland from Atherton fire station said: “We attended the incident at 12.30am on Rutland Road. A shed at the side of the property had caught fire.

“Because of the construction of the property, which had concrete style cladding, the fire spread to the outside.

“There was significant damage to the external cladding. Luckily the gentleman inside the house managed to get out as it hadn’t spread to the inside.

“We used two hose reels to put out the fire and we were there for about and hour and a half. We are investigating the cause.”
