Fire crews were called after two cars crashed in Westhoughton last night. 

The cars collided on Chorley Road at approximately 10.30pm.

Both drivers managed to get out of their vehicles and there were no serious injuries.

Fire engines arrived to secure the scene by disconnecting the car batteries.

Watch manager Leyland said: "We attended a road traffic collision involving two cars on the A6, Chorley Road near Westhoughton.

"We were called at 10.40pm to ensure that the vehicles were made safe.

"We did this by disconnecting the car batteries.

"There were no serious injuries and both drivers had managed to get out their cars by the time we arrived and were being dealt with by the ambulance service."

Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information.
