A FIRE broke out inside a launderettes in Westhoughton last night, Monday.

Three fire engines were sent to The Washerteria on Church Street at around 8pm after reports were made of a smoke smell.

Crews attended and discovered that a blaze had started inside the shop and broke in.

Bolton Central Fire Station watch manager Andy Bolton said: "It was clothes inside one of the dryers that was on fire.

"We managed to contain the fire in the dryer before it spread to the rest of the building.

"We used water to put out the clothes and a dry powder extinguisher on the electrics.

"Smoke had gone into two flats upstairs so we used a ventilation fan to clear it."

No-one was injured in the incident and firefighters were on the scene for around an hour-and-a-half.
