Yasmin Qureshi, MP for Bolton South East, has raised concerns over the safety of new electric scooter trials currently running across many parts of the country.
She has raised the concerns of her constituents and the charity Guide Dogs to the department for transport due to the danger the small stand-on scooters with an electric motor may pose for people with sight loss.
In a post on her website, Ms Qureshi, said: “I appreciate the concerns of my constituents, and the concerns of the charity Guide Dogs, about the e-scooter trials that are currently running across the UK.
“In particular, I understand the danger that the misuse of e-scooters could pose for people with sight loss, as they operate quietly making them difficult to notice and avoid.
“In the trial areas, we have already seen alarming reports of unsafe and anti-social behaviour, pedestrians injured in collisions, and illegal private e-scooter use increasing."
