A popular bar has closed its doors for a deep clean after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

Northern Monkey, in Nelson Square, closed on Sunday and will be closed over the coming weekend, the owner has confirmed.

Ryan Bailey, who co-owns Northern Monkey, said the member of staff didn’t come into work on Friday as “they weren’t feeling 100 per cent” and other staff members who worked with them were asked to isolate.

They then tested positive on Sunday when the bar was closed.

Mr Bailey said: “We’ve been following government guidelines, which is a tough thing to do, and using NHS track and trace but have closed as a safety measure.

“Other staff members have started isolating who worked on the same day as a precaution.

“All members of staff have been wearing face visors while working and we’ve enforced social distancing and mask wearing for customers.

“We’ve been making sure the staff are working in as safe an environment as possible.

“This is just really unfortunate after just reopening again.

“We’ve got NHS track and trace in place so anybody who needs to be notified should.”
