FOUR men and a woman are in custody after a ‘violent disturbance’ broke out last night leaving two people needing hospital treatment.

Officers, including armed police, were called to Blair Lane in Breightmet last night, with nearby Aldercroft Avenue being cordoned off.

The police helicopter was also scrambled.

A dispersal notice was issued, but police said "there is not believed to be any wider threat to the community".

Police searched properties and made arrests at at several locations, including Aldercroft Avenue and New Lane.

A BB gun and a number of suspected Class A drugs were recovered from the area.

Two men were taken hospital for treatment, including one who was arrested.

 Although details of their injuries have not been revealed, they are not thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 10pm on Saturday 17 October 2020, police were called to numerous reports of a violent disturbance on Blair Lane, Bolton.

“Specialist officers attended and searched a number of properties on Aldercroft Avenue, Blair Lane and New Lane.

“Four men, aged 17, 18, 29 and 30, and a 25-year-old woman, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. All remain in custody for questioning apart from one man who was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.

“Another man, aged 31, was also taken to hospital for treatment.

“A BB gun and a number of suspected Class A drugs were recovered from the area.

“Enquiries are ongoing.

There was still a police presence in New Lane, with an officer outside a house and police car and van, still on the scene this morning.

One passer-by told The Bolton News: "There was a lot of police officers and vehicles with forensic officers showing interest in a vehicle in Aldercroft Avenue.

"A cordon was in place from a patch of land to the end of Aldercroft Avenue.

"When I saw it there were no people around just police."

Cllr Debbie Newall said: "The police have kept councillors informed about the incident, reassuring us that they are all over it and did issue a dispersal order to calm the situation.

"I am very impressed with the immediate police response and arrests have been made.

"Officers have engaged with the community about the incident.

"It is very upsetting for everyone when something like this happens."
