Police have carried out a day of action across roads in Bolton to catch speeding drivers.

Officers teamed up with the Safer Transport Unit yesterday in an effort to make the roads safer.

Police were at 15 locations throughout the day which were highlighted as areas of concern by members of the public. Some of these were near schools.

22 drivers were reported for various offences, including speeding, careless driving and use of mobile phones.

Police said the day of action was 'highly effective', and will be done more often across Bolton.

A post on GMP Bolton North's Facebook said: "Police have conducted a day of action in their fight to make safer roads in Bolton.

"As a result of what you have told us about speeding and dangerous driving, we have undertaken a joint exercise with our colleagues from the Safer Transport Unit today.

"This has seen 19 members of the GMP team dedicated to this important area of policing.

"We have been to 15 locations throughout the day, which you highlighted as causing concern.

"This has been on main arterial routes, as well as sites near to our schools.

"22 drivers were reported for various offences, including speeding, careless driving and use of mobile phones.

"One vehicle was registered travelling at 57mph in a 30mph zone and one driver caught speeding already had 10 points on their licence, truly emphasising the need for this type of operation.

"We do listen and will do our best to make your roads and communities safer as the last thing anyone wants is a tragic loss of life caused by drivers exceeding the speed limit or driving in a careless or dangerous manner.

"This joint working has proven highly effective today and will feature regularly across the district of Bolton from now on."
