A controlled explosion took place this morning after an unexploded device was found in a skip.
It comes after a Second World War mortar shell was found by workers at Lostock Skip Hire on Star Lane in Horwich last night.
People living on Hazel Pear Close were told to leave their houses at around 5pm as emergency services dealt with the incident.
They were allowed back in at around 9pm yesterday.
This morning, bomb disposal officers carried out a controlled explosion.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police, said: "A controlled explosion took place earlier this morning and police with explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) have left the scene."
