NOW that’s what you call a flood! The River Irwell burst its banks after heavy rain in September 1946 and the floodwater reached the window level on the ground floor of the impressive spinning mill at Stoneclough.
The remaining six floors of the mill were unaffected but the swept through the ground floor damaging machinery and materials.
