A MAN has been jailed after killing his passenger in a horror smash at a major roundabout.

Reece Entwistle, 29, overshot the Greyhound Roundabout in a Mercedes A200 on August 22, travelling straight over the structure and crashing into nearby trees.

A 30-year-old passenger, named locally as Mark Taylor, tragically died at the scene.

Three fire engines were called to the scene, at the junction of East Lancashire and Warrington Road, and a brave bystander put out a fire after a blaze broke out from the vehicle.

The eastbound sections of the A580 between Atherleigh Way and the scene of the crash was closed for a number of hours.

Entwistle, of Deansgate Lane, Timperley, admitted causing death by dangerous driving, and driving whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol at Bolton Crown Court earlier today.

He was sentenced to seven year and six months in prison, and disqualified from driving for 13 years.

PC Karl Horner, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man's loved ones and I hope this sentencing provides them with a sense of closure.

"I also hope this case serves as a reminder about the potential consequences of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs."
