One church vicar went the extra mile to keep as many people as possible involved in the parish's usual remembrance service.

Rev Alan Saunders of Christ Church Pennington, Leigh, like many hosted a streamed service for Remembrance Sunday.

To get local people more involved he climbed the church's 80 foot tower to play the Last Post and Reveille on his trumpet.

Rev Saunders said: "Our live stream had well over 100 viewers watching online which is great.

"I knew people were being encouraged to stand outside for remembrance so I got up the 80 foot tower and played the Last Post from the top.

"I thought anyone stood outside would be able to hear it and be involved in the service."

The church usually holds its remembrance service at the nearby Pennington Park.

A wreath was also laid in the church by ex-serviceman Garth Waddup, 74.
