THE Government's education watchdog could launch an investigation into why eight governors suddenly resigned from a village primary school.
The Bolton News reported last week that more than half of governors had walked out at Egerton Primary, forcing the local authority to intervene and establish an emergency interim executive board to run the village school.
The local authority and the school are staying tight-lipped on the reasons for the resignations.
But a spokesman for Ofsted said: "While we cannot comment on individual schools, we will always look into any significant concerns relating to leadership or governance."
The former chair of governors Heather Aspbury told The Bolton News she was unable to comment for reasons of "confidentiality requirements of the governor code of conduct."
In a joint statement, announcing the resignation, the governors said they felt they were being "prevented from being able to govern effectively".
