MORE than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Bolton in just a week.

Rolling seven-day rates of new cases of Covid-19 show there were 1496 positive coronavirus tests in the seven days to November 6.

The number of new cases of the virus is fewer than those recorded the week before ­— 1577.

The town is now placed 11th in the country based on its infection rate.

Official data published on the Government shows that Doffcocker and Moss Bank were among the areas to record the biggest fall in cases. The total number of cases in the area stands at 34, down by 23 in the seven days to November 4.

The majority of areas in Bolton showed a fall in the number of cases during that time, but coronavirus cases rose in 12 ward areas.

Astley Bridge still has the highest number of cases at 68, but that is a decrease of 2 from the previous week. 

The number of patients to have died at Royal Bolton Hospital with covid-19 in the seven days to November 9 is 15.

Cases are rising in the 0-15, 25-43, 35-44 and 55-64 age brackets ­— with a sharp increase recorded in the 35-44 age group ­— 272 cases to 319.
